Finally got out for some hiking. Seems like it's been a while. Got my butt kicked last week on a bike ride with the Ventura Recumbent Riders so I got no exercise at all this week. I'm very out of shape!
Anyway, so many road closures and detours still out there making it hard to get to many places. We went to Romero Trail today. The County Web Site showed Bella Vista as being closed, but it is closed right where you would park anyway. And the old slide that used to be there covering part of the road? They're finally getting rid of it.
Romero Trail is not in too bad of shape. The road part is pretty bad, but not the trail. At the beginning it is like all the dirt washed away exposing the rocky part underneath. Further up, Romero Road has mudslides that cover the entire road that you have to walk over. But nothing you can't do.
The trail is still nice. The creek is flowing nicely. A couple places here and there the less sure-footed might risk wet feet, but really it's all very mild.
Wildflowers are already coming up. We saw milk maids, prickly phlox, wild cucumber, chaparral nightshade, mountain lilac and indian paintbrush.
